Goshen Fire Department
GFD Physical Agility Test
Test Description
Candidates will be required to wear a helmet, 50lb weight vest, pants, and gloves. Time starts when the candidate begins at Station 1 and ends when the candidate finishes Station 9. Time to complete the agility test is 14 minutes. The last station, which is completed after a brief cool down period, is a 75’ ladder climb that is not timed but must be finished.
Station 1: Hose Crawl
Candidate dons a provided vision impaired SCBA mask and a helmet. Knee pads are presented as an option. Candidate is then guided to the female end of a hose coupling. The hose crawl consists of 3, 50’ sections of hose that are deployed throughout the first floor and looped over themselves at 3 separate locations. The candidates time begins on their initial movement forward at the female end of the coupling. The candidate must progress through the 3, 50’ sections of hose and finish at the male coupling. If the candidate become disoriented and return to the start/finish point, they will not be disqualified; however, their time will not be reset. The candidate cannot stand up and walk. Once complete, the candidate will be assisted in doffing their SCBA mask and knee pads.
Station 2: Removal of a Downed Firefighter
Candidate maneuvers the manikin from behind the start/finish line down the concrete pad at the opposite end, turns around, and returns the entire manikin across the start/finish line.
Station 3: High Rise
Candidate places a 100’ hose pack on their shoulder/back and ascends 5 floors up the stairwell. Once they reach the 5th floor landing, the candidate descends the stairwell and returns the hose bundle to the designated location. (You may use the handrail for support)
Station 4: Ceiling Breach and Pull
Candidate will grasp a 4’ pike pole and complete 3 sets of 3 ceiling pulls and 3 ceiling breaches. Candidates must ensure they are performing complete reps on each movement.
Station 5: Saw Carry
Candidate carries both a K-12 and a chain saw down and around a cone, returning them to the start/finish line.
Station 6: Donut Roll Raise
Candidate ascends to the platform on the 3rd floor. Candidate raises a 2.5” donut roll of hose up and over the 3rd floor railing using a hand over hand method. Once complete, the candidate enters the 3rd floor, down the stairs, and exits on the west side of the 1st floor.
Station 7: Hydrant Manipulation
Candidate will attach 3 male and 3 female hose couplings to the hydrant manipulation device. All connections must be hand tight. After the couplings are attached, they will then be removed one by one and placed back in their initial location on the platforms.
Station 8: Ladder Raise
Candidate raises a 16’ roof ladder to a 2nd story window on the north side of the building. The candidate must position the ladder to the window and ensure a safe climbing angle. Once the climbing angle has been achieved, the ladder will be lowered and placed back in the starting position. Once completed, the candidate returns to the Southwest corner of the training facility and will be assisted with doffing their 50lb weight vest.
Station 9: Hose Roll
Candidates will donut roll 3, 50’ sections of 1.75” hose. Hose rolls must remain intact and be placed on a designated platform. Once the candidate has completed placing the third hose roll on the platform, time will be stopped and recorded.
The candidate is awarded a brief cool down period before beginning Station 10.
Station 10: Ladder Climb
Candidate dons a harness, helmet, and gloves. The candidate is assisted in donning the harness, which is then attached to a belay system. Candidate ascends the ladder, which is set to 75’ in height and a 60-degree climbing angle. Once the candidate reaches the top rung, they may begin to descend the ladder. Once the candidate reaches the ground, the belay system will be detached, and the candidate will doff their harness.
