GOSHEN, Ind. — Peace Officer Memorial Day honored the enduring legacy of fallen Goshen Police Officer Thomas “Tommy” Goodwin as six students received the 2026 Goodwin Memorial Scholarship bearing his name.

During the May 15 ceremony outside the Goshen Police Department, family members, first responders and community residents gathered to remember officers who died in service to the community. The annual event included a roll call of fallen officers, a wreath laying, military honors and the playing of Taps.

Mayor Gina Leichty said the ceremony calls the community “to remember those who gave their lives” while continuing to support officers serving today.

Interim Police Chief Andy Stephenson said Goodwin remains a lasting part of the department’s culture.

“Officer Goodwin is a huge part of the culture at the Goshen Police Department,” Stephenson said. “He is honored and remembered, not only today, but every day. Officer Goodwin will forever be recognized as a hero.”
