Goshen Youth Advisor Program
The City of Goshen Youth Advisor Program gives Goshen High School seniors an opportunity to participate directly in local government while providing City leaders with a youth perspective. Students are elected by their classmates near the end of their junior year to serve as Youth Advisors during their senior year.
Youth Advisors serve alongside elected officials and appointed board and commission members throughout the school year. They attend meetings, learn about issues facing the community, participate in discussions and share the perspectives of young people in Goshen.
Youth Advisors may also cast non-binding votes on agenda items. While those votes do not affect official actions, they give students an opportunity to evaluate issues and participate in the public decision-making process.
Leadership and community service
Youth Advisors work together to plan and carry out a community service project each year. The project gives students an opportunity to identify a community need, develop a plan and work together to make a positive impact in Goshen.
Goshen also participates in the Aim Youth Councils Network, which connects youth councils from communities across Indiana. Through Aim, Youth Advisors have opportunities for leadership development, networking and statewide civic engagement, including participation in Aim Youth Legislative Day at the Indiana Statehouse.
