Update: Goshen’s East Lincoln Avenue reopened in time for Elkhart County 4-H Fair

GOSHEN, Ind. — East Lincoln Avenue reopened Thursday afternoon after approximately 18 months of construction, restoring a key east-west route before the start of the Elkhart County 4-H Fair.

The City of Goshen reopened the roadway after Niblock Excavating completed the vast majority of the multi-phase reconstruction project about a month ahead of schedule. The reopening is expected to improve traffic flow during one of the city’s busiest weeks of the year.

The project included extensive infrastructure improvements, including a new water main, storm sewer, sidewalks, curbs and roadway from Rock Run Creek east just past Steury Avenue.

East Lincoln Avenue reopened with lasting improvements

The reconstruction project delivers several long-term benefits, including:

• A new water main to improve system reliability.
• Upgraded storm sewer infrastructure to improve drainage.
• New sidewalks to enhance pedestrian access.
• New curbs and pavement to improve safety and ride quality.
• Modernized infrastructure designed to serve the corridor for decades.

After the fair, which runs from July 24 through Aug. 1, motorists should expect occasional minor lane restrictions while crews complete final pavement striping and other punch-list work. Traffic will remain open through the corridor during those activities.

Although work on East Lincoln Avenue is substantially complete, construction will continue on Steury Avenue. Portions of Steury Avenue will remain closed through the remainder of the 2026 construction season.
