Goshen fall leaf pickup will begin in November with two collection rounds

GOSHEN, Ind. — Goshen fall leaf pickup returns in November with two citywide collection rounds planned before winter.

The Goshen Street Department will begin the first round Monday, Nov. 2. A second round will begin Monday, Dec. 7.

Crews will make one pass through the city during each round. Collection will continue into December, weather permitting.

The revised schedule replaces the previous practice of beginning fall leaf collection in October.

Goshen fall leaf pickup Guidelines

Residents should place leaves in long piles on the grass beside the street or sidewalk. Piles must remain within 6 feet of the curb.

Do not rake leaves into streets or alleys. Residents using sidewalk space should leave a clear path for pedestrians.

Keep piles away from mailboxes, fire hydrants and storm drains. Clearing nearby storm drains also helps prevent street flooding.

Leaf piles should contain leaves only. Sticks, twigs, brush and trash can damage the City’s vacuum equipment and delay collection.

Crews will collect bagged leaves but must empty the bags first. They will leave the empty bags behind.

Residents can spray leaf piles with water during high winds to help keep leaves from blowing.

Give crews room to work

Vehicles should not block leaf piles. Collection crews need at least 15 feet of clearance to operate equipment safely.

Residents should use off-street parking when possible. Never park over leaf piles because hot exhaust systems can create a fire hazard.

The City does not provide curbside brush pickup from October through March. Residents should keep brush separate from leaves.

The free brush trailer program remains available year-round, weather permitting. Residents can reserve a trailer for brush from their own trimming work.

Contractors and landscaping businesses cannot use the residential brush trailer program. Contractors must remove brush generated by their work.
