What to know: Goshen Memorial Day Rembrances and Parade

GOSHEN, Ind. — The Goshen Memorial Day Parade returns Monday, May 25, with ceremonies and a downtown procession honoring military members who died in service to the United States.

Veterans groups, civic leaders and residents will gather throughout Goshen for a morning of remembrance and military tributes.

Goshen VFW Post 985, the American Legion, Disabled American Veterans and community partners organize the annual event.

Goshen Memorial Day Parade follows morning ceremonies

The morning begins with an 8:45 a.m. waterfront wreath service at Powerhouse Park. The ceremony honors fallen and missing U.S. Navy and Coast Guard personnel.

Powerhouse Park sits west of the Goshen Farmers Market at the end of West Washington Street where the Millrace feeds back into the Elkhart River.

A remembrance ceremony at the Veterans Memorial on the east lawn of the Historic Elkhart Councy Courthouse follows at 9 a.m.

Parade participants then will stage near the Goshen Police & Courts Building and along East Jefferson Street.

The downtown parade begins at 10:15 a.m.

The route will travel:
• North on Main Street
• West on Pike Street
• North on First Street
• Ending at Oakridge Cemetery

A final remembrance ceremony at Oakridge Cemetery will begin around 11 a.m.

Veterans and community leaders featured

George Buckmaster, commander of Goshen VFW Post 985, will serve as master of ceremonies.

Wayne Hawn, a U.S. Army veteran who served during the Vietnam era, will serve as parade marshal.

Retired U.S. Air Force Master Sgt. Victoria Molnar will serve as guest speaker. Molnar previously served as a B-1 Bomber crew chief.

Mayor Gina Leichty, Goshen Interim Police Chief Andy Stephenson and Goshen Fire Chief Anthony Powell also will participate.
